Speech Therapy

Speech therapy is a treatment program designed to help patients regain and increase their ability to communicate through speech. The healthcare team member who provides this treatment is called a speech therapist.

A speech therapist is usually consulted for clinical conditions such as:
Swallow Evaluation
Determines safety of eating/drinking
Establishes consistencies tolerated
Precautions to eat/drink safely
Swallow Therapy
To elicit swallow, teach precautions and/or modify diet for safety
Speech/Language Evaluation
Assess communication skills after stroke, head injury that results in diminished capacity to communicate or think as before.
Speech/Language Therapy
Improves communication(understanding, talking, reading/writing
Cognitive/Communication Evaluation
Assess cognitive skill(capacity to remember, communicate, or reason
Cognitive/Communication Therapy
To improve attention, memory, thought organization, and/or reasoning skills

Speech therapy includes:
Training and repetitive exercises and
Use of devices that can make it easier for some people to speak
